French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a stark warning to Europe, urging the continent to rapidly develop new long-range strike weapons in response to Russia’s Oreshnik missile, which has already been used twice against Ukraine and is capable of reaching European territory. Speaking to the French Armed Forces, Macron said Moscow’s deployment of the intermediate-range ballistic missile sends an unmistakable signal that Europe can no longer assume it is beyond the reach of modern Russian weaponry. He stressed that France, alongside Germany and the United Kingdom, must move decisively to develop deep-strike capabilities to maintain credibility and strengthen nuclear deterrence. At the same time, Macron confirmed that French troops have already arrived in Greenland and will be reinforced by land, air, and maritime forces as part of a Danish-led military exercise. The deployment comes amid heightened tensions following open disagreements between Denmark, Greenland, and the United States over the Arctic island’s future. Macron said Europeans have a special responsibility to stand alongside a NATO ally and protect EU territory, as NATO studies ways to bolster Arctic security.
