Russia's Zakharova Mocks Trump As Iran Targets US Bases In Gulf; 'They Bring Trouble Not Security'
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has launched a scathing attack on the United States, accusing Washington of violating international law and escalating tensions in West Asia through actions around the Strait of Hormuz. Zakharova described the alleged blockade as an example of “arbitrary interpretation” of global legal norms, warning that such moves risk deepening the conflict and triggering serious economic fallout. She also took aim at U.S. military rhetoric, claiming that dismissing rules of warfare as “nonsense” raises concerns about accountability and adherence to international humanitarian law. Highlighting the global stakes, Zakharova stressed that disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz — a critical energy corridor — have already had massive consequences. According to her, over a month of halted shipping due to U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran has cut off nearly 20% of global oil supply, more than 30% of LNG, and 40% of helium exports.
