A high-stakes faceoff is looming in the Gulf. An Iranian supertanker is on course for Kharg Island and US warships are standing in its path. According to Iranian reports, a Very Large Crude Carrier, or VLCC, has crossed what’s being described as a US “siege line”, re-entering Iranian waters after completing a massive oil transfer. Now, the vessel is expected to dock at Kharg Island, a key Iranian oil terminal. If confirmed, this would mark a major breach in Washington’s effort to choke Tehran’s oil exports.
