Monkeypox is a viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus, which is related to smallpox. It is primarily transmitted through direct contact with infected animals, human bodily fluids, or contaminated materials. The disease often begins with flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, and fatigue. These initial symptoms are followed by a distinctive rash that typically starts on the face and spreads to other parts of the body. The rash progresses through several stages, including the formation of fluid-filled blisters that eventually crust over. Monkeypox can be severe, particularly in young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. In this video, Dr Rohit Garg, Consultant, Infectious Disease, Amrita Hospital Faridabad explains all about mpox infection and when should one seek medical help.
