The Bihar voter list controversy has exploded into a full-scale battle for democracy. On August 22, the Supreme Court ordered the Election Commission to make the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process voter-friendly, allowing claims both online and offline. The court ruled that excluded voters can file with Aadhaar plus any one of the 11 accepted documents. Expressing surprise at the silence of political parties, the bench noted that despite 85,000 new voters being added, only two objections were filed. Opposition leaders have accused the EC of deleting genuine voters without fair verification, while the EC insists it has published lists of deleted voters under the ASD (Absentee, Shifted, Dead) category.
