India is encouraging a shift from LPG cylinders to piped natural gas as part of a wider push for energy efficiency and cleaner fuel use. The government says LPG supply remains stable across the country and there is no risk of dry-out at fuel pumps or distributorships. However, commercial users in areas with PNG infrastructure are being urged to switch to pipeline gas to reduce pressure on LPG demand. Petroleum Ministry officials say gas distribution companies are offering incentives to attract new consumers. Indraprastha Gas Limited, GAIL and Bharat Petroleum are among those rolling out promotional benefits. PNG is seen as a cleaner and more convenient fuel because it is supplied directly through pipelines, removing the need for cylinder storage and deliveries. The push also aligns with India’s broader plan to expand city gas distribution networks. Officials say the transition could strengthen fuel supply efficiency while supporting cleaner energy adoption nationwide.
