A New York Times investigation report unravels a global financial network run by China to push its influence and propaganda. At the centre of the global nexus is a charismatic American millionaire, Neville Roy Singham, who is known as a socialist benefactor of far-left causes. Singham has been pumping millions of dollars into media organsiations through a series of non-profits and shell companies in form of donations. The NYT report mentions India's NewsClick website receiving funds from Singham’s network, and how its coverage is "sprinkled with Chinese government talking points". BJP has unleashed an attack on the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, alleging Chinese funding for the party. It also accused the Congress of defending Newsclick during an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate in 2021 into its funding.
