A political storm has erupted in India following the sinking of the Iranian warship IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean. Rahul Gandhi has accused Narendra Modi of maintaining silence as the conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel expands closer to India’s maritime neighbourhood. Gandhi warned that the crisis now threatens critical global shipping lanes and India’s energy security. But government sources have strongly rejected claims linking India to the incident. Officials said the Iranian warship had earlier attended the International Fleet Review 2026 and was only a guest between February 16 and February 25. After leaving Indian waters, the vessel did not seek any assistance from India. The ship was later struck in international waters near Sri Lanka. The incident has now triggered political debate as tensions continue to escalate across the wider region.
