India used the UN Security Council platform to expose what it called Pakistan’s growing militarisation and constitutional decay. Responding to Pakistan during an open debate, India’s envoy Parvathaneni Harish said Islamabad must introspect on how its armed forces engineered a constitutional coup by pushing through the 27th Amendment. The amendment, India said, handed lifetime immunity to Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, effectively placing one military officer above the law. The reference was unmistakably to Field Marshal Asim Munir, whose powers now extend across all branches of the armed forces. India stressed that this was not democratic reform but consolidation of unchecked military authority. The intervention came as Pakistan tried to raise Operation Sindoor at the UN, prompting India to call out a distorted narrative. New Delhi clarified that the operation was a legitimate response to the Pahalgam terror attack and was conducted in a responsible and restrained manner. India’s message was blunt: constitutional manipulation cannot mask democratic collapse.
