External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar on August 31 elucidated India's path towards attaining permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. He emphasized that excluding India from this membership could undermine the credibility of the international organization. Dr. Jaishankar noted the evolution of the United Nations since its inception in the 1940s, with the number of member countries expanding from 50 to over 200. He stressed that the world's most populous nation and the fifth-largest economy should not be excluded from this significant position. He stated that the UN's history aligns with India's aspirations, and despite opposition, changes will occur. Dr. Jaishankar asserted that the UN will eventually accommodate India, and although some forces may hinder this progress, it will inevitably come to fruition.
