After the Women’s Reservation Bill failed to clear the Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has said the outcome “should not be considered a failure of the government,” instead blaming the opposition for blocking the legislation.The bill, which sought to fast-track 33% reservation for women, secured more votes in favour than against but fell short of the two-thirds majority required for a constitutional amendment.While the government calls it a missed opportunity caused by political obstruction, opposition parties argue that the bill’s linkage with delimitation made consensus impossible.
