During his visit to Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled development projects worth nearly ₹24,000 crore in Silchar and launched a strong political attack on the Congress party. Speaking in the Barak Valley, Modi accused past Congress governments of ignoring the Northeast for decades and said the BJP-led government is now transforming the region through major infrastructure projects. The centrepiece announcement was the foundation stone for the ₹22,860 crore Shillong-Silchar Corridor that will connect Assam with Meghalaya and reduce travel time across the region. The Prime Minister said the corridor will open new trade opportunities with neighbouring states and even markets in Southeast Asia. According to him, the development push will create jobs, strengthen connectivity and position the Barak Valley as a key economic gateway for the Northeast.
