Former Bangladesh Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina congratulated Suvendu Adhikari following the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections. In her message, Hasina described the result as a reflection of people’s trust in Adhikari’s leadership and extended wishes on behalf of herself and the people of Bangladesh. She highlighted the shared cultural and historical ties between Bangladesh and West Bengal, expressing hope that relations would strengthen further under his leadership. Hasina also emphasised continued cooperation and development between the two Bengals. She wished Adhikari and the newly elected cabinet success and good health. Hasina has been living in India since leaving Bangladesh after political unrest in August 2024.
