Union Minister Anupriya Patel on September 01 said that ‘One Nation, One Election’ is nothing new. She said that this is an old issue that needs a positive discussion. Anupriya Patel said, “One Nation, One Election is nothing new. This has been in discussion for a long time. PM has raised this issue on several platforms. He has spoken about this in the Parliament and from the ramparts of the Red Fort. A new committee, led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, has been formed today. I think this is an old issue on which there needs to be a positive discussion.” “A lot of pomp & show of the meeting takes place, it is discussed a lot but we saw that a coordination committee has been formed. It is nothing big because all the parties have their representatives in it. But there is an old saying 'Zyada Jogi, Matth Ujaad' - the same is the situation at INDIA alliance. As far as the seat-sharing is concerned, I think we can't see any solution to it. I think that by the time they find a solution, elections would have concluded,” he added. The Union government has constituted a committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind to explore the possibility of ‘One Nation, One Election’ which envisages the holding of general elections and state Assembly elections simultaneously. Notably, this development has come a day after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi on August 07 called a special five-day session of Parliament starting on September 18 to September 22.
