Transgenders add colours to Heritage Tram, deck up Durga idol inside in Kolkata

In a first, a Durga Puja Pandal has been organised inside the heritage Tram 'Chaitali' in West Bengal’s Kolkata. The entire decoration of the tram as well as the idol was done by members of the transgender community. Organised by Amrita Singh who runs an NGO, the theme of the Durga Puja is refugee. Speaking with ANI, one of the members said, "For the first time, it is happening. We are doing it in the Kolkata Esplanade Tram Depot.” Talking further, she said, "We want acceptance. Our struggle is for acceptance...We need empathy, not sympathy...Durga Maa stays amongst everyone. Durga Maa is very much symbolic."
