Incessant rainfall in Uttarakhand has thrown normal life out of gear. The rivers have swelled and bridges are facing the danger of being washed away. Nandakini river has swelled as the Chamoli region continues to experience incessant rainfall. A portion of Haldwani Bridge washed away in heavy currents of water. The bridge connects Nainital with Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat districts. SDRF and state police rescued around 22 devotees stuck at Jungle Chatti while coming back from Kedarnath Temple. They have been shifted to Gauri Kund. One 55-yr-old devotee, who was facing difficulty in walking, was shifted on a stretcher. Gangotri national highway was blocked due to landslides near Sukki Top in Uttarkashi district and other places. People are devastated as water has entered the houses. Landslides and heavy flow of water have disconnected the district headquarters to rural areas. Six people, including three Nepalese nationals and a tourist from Kanpur, were killed in separate landslide incidents in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take stock of the situation in the hill state.
