The Supreme Court of India has set a clear deadline-based rule for voter inclusion in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026. The court ruled that only those voters whose names are restored by appellate tribunals before April 21 and April 27 will be allowed to vote in the respective phases of polling. The decision ensures that tribunal orders are implemented through supplementary electoral rolls issued by the Election Commission of India. However, the court clarified that voters with pending appeals will not receive voting rights until their cases are finally decided. The order comes amid the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, which led to widespread voter deletions and more than 34 lakh appeals. The ruling seeks to ensure a balance between correcting voter lists and maintaining a smooth election process.
