West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee demanded a thorough investigation into the tragic train accident in Odisha's Balasore district, which claimed the lives of 261 people and injured over 900. Banerjee visited the accident site and discussed the incident with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and other officials. She expressed concerns about the lack of coordination in the Railways Department and speculated that the malfunctioning of the anti-collision system could have contributed to the accident. Banerjee announced a compensation of Rs 5,00,000 for the families of the victims from Bengal and coordinated rescue operations with the Odisha government. West Bengal also dispatched ambulances and medical teams to provide assistance.
