'Luminous Legacy': Iconic Works of M.F. Hussain, S.H. Raza, and others of Progressive Artists Group

An epic art exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Progressive Artists Group received an overwhelming response in Delhi. It showcased the visionary works of founding members like M.F. Hussain, S.H. Raza, F.N. Souza, K.H. Ara, H.A. Gade, and Sadanand K. Bakre. The event was organized by the Raza Foundation and Triveni Kala Sangam, in collaboration with 'Luminous Legacy'.The exhibition transported visitors to a time of independence and diversity, where they could dive into the brilliance of these iconic artists. The artworks transcended boundaries, challenging traditional norms and taking viewers on a captivating journey through the 1940s and beyond, when India was forging its path towards a secular and liberated nation.Let's delve into the history of the Progressive Artists Group (PAG). In the vibrant city of Bombay, back in the summer of 1949, these six extraordinary artists showcased their groundbreaking work at the Bombay Art Society Salon. This exhibition became a defining moment for modern art in India, forever shaping its course.The PAG consisted of F.N. Souza, S.H. Raza, M.F. Husain, K.H. Ara, Sadanand K. Bakre, and Hari Ambadas Gade. Owning a masterpiece by Raza or Husain signifies not only a love for art but also holds social prestige. With an impressive daily footfall of 400, the exhibition drew crowds.
