The Department of State spokesperson, Matthew Miller, emphasized the necessity of Canada's investigation and bringing the culprits to justice. He stated, "We believe it's critical that Canada's investigation proceed, and we have publicly and privately urged the Indian Government to cooperate with the Canadian investigation."Regarding the India-Canada dispute, Miller mentioned, "We are deeply concerned by the allegations referenced by Prime Minister Trudeau. We remain in close contact with our Canadian partners." Tensions escalated after Trudeau's allegations, with India rejecting them as "absurd and motivated." Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, was killed in Surrey, Canada, on June 18.Additionally, U.S. Representative Jim Costa called for a thorough investigation into Nijjar's killing. In a statement on social media, he expressed his concern and requested an official briefing as a member of the House Foreign Affairs committee, emphasizing the need to determine accountability for the crime.Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had also expressed deep concern about Trudeau's allegations and their potential impact on the U.S.-Canada relationship.
