'Something is not right': Videos of scary lightning and tornado like rain in Pune go viral

A spell of heavy showers, accompanied by frightening thunder and lightning, lashed most parts of Pune late on Monday night.



It started with a drizzle around 8.30pm and the rain picked up intensity later on to continue past midnight. The downpour affected life on the streets across the city, leaving roads inundated and slowing down traffic.


Waterlogging was witnessed in many areas including Kondhwa, Hadapsar, Market Yard, Sinhgad Road, NIBM Road, B T Kawade Road, Katraj, Deccan, Karve Nagar, Kothrud and Peth.

Some people staying in low-lying areas and near the Karha river banks were shifted to safer places, district authorities said.

Alarmed by the lightning and heavy downpour, netizens took to Twitter to share videos of what they just witnessed and express their concern. The videos and photos showed a day-like light late at night.
