Viral video of glass octopus leaves netizens mesmerised

The internet has been left awestruck by the video of a

glass octopus

captured by a group of researchers.

The video of the almost-transparent octopus had been shared by the

Schmidt Ocean Institute

’s Instagram handle.

The video showed the octopus simply moving around in the ocean. Sharing information about the animal, the caption of the post read, “The Glass Octopus is a nearly transparent pelagic species of octopus found worldwide in tropical and subtropical latitudes. The only visible features of the octopus are its optic nerve, eyeballs, and digestive tract (the silvery piece in the middle). All of these organs are oriented to minimize casting shadows from below, to keep the animal hidden from predators.”

According to a statement published by the Schmidt Ocean Institute,

The video went viral and garnered the attention of thousands. One Instagram user said, “Always mesmerised with the deep! ��❤️❤️ Wow!” while another commented, “Wow! So cool.”
