After 20 years on Grey’s Anatomy, Chandra Wilson finally starts watching the show: ‘ I guess it’s time’
Chandra Wilson, known around the world for her role as Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey’s Anatomy has just made a surprising confession after two decades on the show, she’s only now getting around to watching it.

In a recent red carpet conversation with PEOPLE during Disney’s 2025 Upfront presentation, Wilson revealed that she began binge-watching the long-running medical drama during the pandemic but stalled out early on. “I got through season three during COVID and then went right back to work,” she shared. “I stopped, and I haven’t gone back since. So now I think it’s time. I need to know what people are talking about!”
Wilson, who is now 55, has been with the show since its premiere in 2005. Alongside James Pickens Jr., who plays Dr. Richard Webber, she remains one of just two original cast members still actively involved with the series. Despite its long run, Wilson says her passion for the show and her character hasn’t faded. “I still enjoy playing Bailey. I love that people get to see different layers of her. And I really love that her hairstyle keeps changing,” she joked.
Even after 21 seasons, Wilson says the energy on set remains electric, and she’s not planning on stepping away any time soon. “It’s a collaborative experience that still feels fresh. As long as they want us here we’ll be here.”
With 'Grey’s Anatomy' set to launch season 22 this fall and its monumental 450th episode on the horizon, Wilson says the excitement among the cast is real. As reported by People, she shared that the crew already began celebrating the major milestone last year.
Though she’s been a crucial part of shaping the series from the inside, Wilson now looks forward to seeing it from the outside through the eyes of its millions of fans. “I’m always excited that we get to keep these stories going. Maybe now I’ll finally see what everyone else has been loving all this time.”
