Jessica Chastain says she regrets disappointing fans as she backs out from ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’

Actress Jessica Chastain, who was initially open to the idea of starring in the film adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestseller ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,’ has now clarified that there is zero possibility of her taking on the role.

The Oscar-winning actor shared this update in a recent interview with E! News. She expressed regret over disappointing eager fans who had fervently campaigned for her casting. She remembered her time at Broadway and the way fans used to gather around while she sang. She loved it, enjoyed it, and therefore understands how disappointing the news can be for them.

Netflix had previously announced its plans to adapt Taylor Jenkins Reid's novel into a feature film, with Liz Tigelaar handling the script and Leslye Headland set to direct. The casting speculation intensified when a video of Chastain refusing to sign a fan's copy of the ‘Evelyn Hugo’ book went viral earlier in the year. In response, Chastain clarified on social media that her decision was rooted in contractual considerations rather than a reflection of the script's quality.

As Chastain continues her promotional efforts for the indie drama ‘Memory,’ co-starring Peter Sarsgaard, the news of her departure from the Evelyn Hugo project adds a layer of intrigue to the unfolding narrative surrounding this highly anticipated adaptation. The film is set to hit theaters nationwide on January 5, 2023.
