The Elephant Whisperers is on OTT: It bagged the Academy Award for Best Documentary for this Indian entry at Oscars 2023

With the Oscar fever raging, what better way to spend this evening than by watching The Elephant Whisperers, winner of the Best Documentary Short Film this year. The storyline is listed online is about “an indigenous couple as they fall in love with Raghu, an orphaned elephant given into their care, and tirelessly work to ensure his survival. The film highlights the beauty of the wild spaces in South India and the people and animals who share this space.”

The couple treat Raghu like their baby and the baby elephant responds perfectly naturally just as any child would. Here’s a review by an online user who was totally moved by the old couple’s care for the wild elephant and wrote in her review: “Such an inspirational and beautiful story between the bond of an elephant and his two so very kind caretakers. The fantastic story, footage, and soundtrack together created such a magical and emotional film that will leave you smiling throughout….”
The documentary has got a 100 per cent score on Rottentomatoes by all the critics who have posted reviews. Andrew Stover of Film Threat exults: “After watching The Elephant Whisperers, the exquisitely crafted and uplifting documentary about the enduring connections forged between elephants and people, I, too, can’t imagine a world without them.”

This short documentary film by Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga is well worth a watch – all 41 minutes of it. The Oscar trophy that it won earlier this morning only endorses what the critics have already said. Go for it -- right away.
