Wagner Moura has joined Kristen Stewart in ‘Flesh of the Gods,' the vampire thriller directed by Panos Cosmatos, with the studio now on board as the film’s U.S. distributor. Moura stepped into a lead role after Oscar Isaac exited because of a scheduling conflict. The casting change has brought fresh attention to a project first announced at the Cannes Market in 2024, which has now moved forward with a new lead pairing.
'Flesh of the Gods' cast update
Deadline reported Moura’s casting and the film’s latest distribution move, while earlier trade coverage had outlined the project’s setup and genre premise. The story follows Raoul and Alex, a married couple in 1980s Los Angeles, who “descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm.” When they meet the mysterious Nameless and her “hard-partying cabal,” they are pulled into “a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills and violence.”
Wagner Moura after ‘The Secret Agent’
Moura arrived on the project after a major awards run for ‘The Secret Agent.' He became the first Brazilian to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for the film. He also won Cannes’ Best Actor and later became the first Brazilian actor to win a Golden Globe in the drama lead category.
He first broke out internationally with 'Narcos,' which earned him his first Golden Globe nomination. More recently, he appeared in Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’ and Apple’s crime drama ‘Dope Thief.' He is also set to appear in Louis Leterrier’s Netflix sci-fi horror film ‘11817’ opposite Greta Lee, as well as the drama ‘The Last Day’ with Alicia Vikander. With ‘Flesh of the Gods,' Moura now moves into another high-profile genre project, this time opposite Stewart in a stylized vampire story.
