The creator of the film, Maggie Kang, has delved into the animated realm and shared how and why the films came to be. In a recent interview, she opened up about another popular K-pop group that became an inspiration for the film's creation.Read more to find out what she has to say. While starring as a guest on the popular talk show ‘Q with Tom Power,’ Kang broke down how the sensational film came into existence and what pushed her to create the masterpiece.She shared what being born in Toronto as a Korean was like for her and how it shaped the reason and inspiration behind the film. "In the ’90s, being a K-pop fan in Canada was a kind of secret identity. This film is ultimately the movie I always wanted to see as a teenager," she added on.Kang has always been open about all the idols and celebrities that have been credited as the inspiration behind the beloved groups Huntrix and Saja Boys. Veteran pop group H.O.T. was one of the main things that she used to obsess over as a child, which she holds close to heart. This automatically made her consider them for the main inspiration and concept of the groups and idols shown in the film.She recalled her childhood fondly, saying, “My bedroom walls were covered with H.O.T. posters, and I would tape music shows on VHS and rewatch them endlessly. The passion and excitement I felt back then were exactly what I wanted to capture in Huntrix and their rival group, the Saja Boys".One major thing she also pointed out was that she wanted to stray away from the stereotypical idea of an animated heroine being "perfect." She purposely made the characters more realistic and even showed them making mistakes, amongst other things, to ensure that people related to them as much as possible.
