Money Heist: Korea actor Kim Ji Joon joins BTOB’s Sungjae and Cosmic Girls’ Bona in historical fantasy drama ‘Gwigoong’

BTOB's Sungjae, Cosmic Girls' Bona (Kim Jiyeon), and Money Heist: Korea actor Kim Ji Hoon are set to star in the upcoming historical fantasy romance drama ‘Gwigoong’, scheduled for release next year. This intriguing series, set in the Joseon era, blends romance with supernatural elements, following a gripping tale of love, magic, and destiny.

In ‘Gwigoong’, Sungjae takes on the role of Yoon Gap, a dedicated palace official determined to restore order after an evil spirit causes chaos. His mission becomes even more complicated when an imoogi - an ancient snake that has failed to ascend to heaven as a dragon - possesses his body in a desperate bid to achieve its celestial goal.

Bona will portray Yeo Ri, the daughter of a revered shaman who is deeply connected to the spiritual realm. Upon discovering that Yoon Gap has been possessed by the imoogi, Yeo Ri strives to save him from the supernatural entity controlling his body. Meanwhile, Kim Ji Hoon joins the cast as Yi Seong, the emperor of Joseon. Faced with overwhelming terrors plaguing his palace, Yi Seong turns to Yoon Gap and Yeo Ri for help, seeking their unique abilities to combat the dark forces threatening his reign.

This upcoming historical fantasy romance drama is set to air in 2025 and will be directed by Yoon Seong-Shik. He is known for his work on 'Mr. Queen', 'Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth', and 'The King’s Face'. Moreover, the filming is slated to begin in August 2024.
