His ministry said he would call for the "withdrawal of Rwandan troops" from the mineral-rich east of neighbouring DRC, where they have been backing the M23 armed group.

Barrot was in the DRC capital, Kinshasa, earlier in the day to meet DRC President Felix Tshisekedi.

The M23 vowed on Thursday to "continue the march of liberation" to Kinshasa after seizing much of the eastern DRC city of Goma.

M23 fighters and Rwandan troops entered Goma on Sunday.

French President Emmanuel Macron had called on Saturday for an "immediate end" to fighting around Goma and a withdrawal of M23 forces. He was speaking in separate phone calls to Kagame and Tshisekedi.
