Russia's fresh attack on Ukraine: Moscow launches drone strike on Odesa maternity ward; 2 dead
Russia launched another large drone attack on Ukraine, targeting Kyiv and causing damage to a maternity facility in Odesa's southern port, according to regional authorities' reports on Tuesday. The Ukrainian officials confirmed that attack killed two people and wounded at least thirteen others.
The overnight strikes came after Russia launched the largest drone attack against Ukraine on Monday, part of heightened military activities that Moscow claims are in response to Ukraine's recent bold incursions into Russian territory, Reuters reported.
In the early hours of Tuesday, medical teams responded to emergencies in four Kyiv districts, including the historic Podil area, as reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko via Telegram.
Previously, in the Odesa drone attack, the death of a 59-year-old man was confirmed and four others were injured, Governor Oleg Kiper said on Telegram, according to the BBC.
Military officials indicated that attacks were continuing and advised residents to take shelter. The comprehensive impact of the assault remained unclear initially.
"Enemy drones are simultaneously attacking several districts of the city," stated Timur Tkachenko, Kyiv's military administration chief, via Telegram. "There is damage to residential buildings and fires. Rescuers are working at the sites."
In Odesa's southern port, a substantial drone attack struck an emergency medical facility, a maternity ward, and residential structures, according to Oleh Kiper, the regional governor, posting on Telegram.
Kiper confirmed no casualties at the maternity hospital, with successful evacuation of patients and staff. He shared images showing damaged windows of what appeared to be a medical facility and structural damage to several buildings.
Both parties in the conflict, ongoing for over three years, maintain they avoid civilian targets. However, the conflict has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, predominantly Ukrainian.
