With the Israel-Hamas war, the Ukraine conflict has faded from headlines. But Ukraine’s ambassador to India Oleksandr Polishchuk speaking to Rudroneel Ghosh insisted the Ukraine issue is very much alive and India should adopt a hands-on approach:
Do you think the world is forgetting about Ukraine following the Israel-Hamas war?
I don’t think so. Ukraine remains in the main loop of the international community. The war in Ukraine is the last anti-colonial war in Europe. Our partners – democratic countries, understand this very well. Therefore, Russia's war against Ukraine will remain on the top of current international agenda. Thus, all our allies continue to strongly support us. Let me give you a couple of recent examples. During the meeting last week in the format of 2+2 Dialogue between India and the US in New Delhi where Ukraine featured prominently in the discussions. Also, Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar discussed the Ukraine issue with the newly-appointed foreign secretary of UK, David Cameron.
