‘Could spin out of control’: Israel preparing to join US military action against Iran?
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have deepened sharply, with Israeli officials now warning that a military confrontation with Iran appears increasingly likely. As diplomatic efforts falter, Israel is preparing for the possibility of joining the United States in military action against the Islamic Republic, according to multiple officials cited by Reuters.
Sources told Reuters that Iran’s Gulf neighbours, along with Israel, view the standoff between Tehran and Washington as having reached an impasse. Two Israeli officials said they believe the gaps between the two sides are “unbridgeable” and that the conflict could "spin out of control and destablise the Middle East". While no final decision has been taken, Israel’s government is reportedly making preparations for potential joint operations with the United States should talks collapse.
The build-up on the ground reflects the rising tensions. New satellite imagery shows a surge in American military assets at Muwaffaq Salti air base in central Jordan, now a key hub for possible strike planning. More than 60 attack aircraft are visible at the base — roughly triple the usual number — alongside drones, helicopters and advanced F-35 stealth jets. Flight tracking data indicates at least 68 cargo aircraft have landed there in recent days. Additional air defences have also been installed to guard against potential Iranian missile retaliation.
President Donald Trump has publicly signalled that military action remains an option. Asked whether limited strikes were under consideration, he replied: “I guess I can say I am considering that,” adding that Iran “better negotiate a fair deal.” He has suggested Tehran has between 10 and 15 days to reach an agreement.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has struck a defiant tone, saying Tehran is prepared for both diplomacy and conflict. “We are prepared for negotiation as much as we are prepared for war,” he said, adding that a draft proposal could be presented to Washington within days. However, he rejected claims that Iran had been asked to halt uranium enrichment entirely, contradicting US public statements.
Across the Gulf, oil-producing states are bracing for possible fallout. Regional officials fear any clash could spiral beyond control, destabilising the Middle East and threatening energy markets. With warships, aircraft carriers and fighter jets deployed in force, and Iran conducting its own naval drills near the Strait of Hormuz, the region appears closer to open conflict than at any point in recent years.
