White House sees Iran's Parliament Speaker as potential partner, future leader: Report

The US is considering the possibility of making Iran's parliament speaker a potential partner - and even a future leader - as US President Donald Trump is signalling towards willingness to come to the diplomatic table instead of military coercion in Iran, Politico reported.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the 64-year-old who has repeatedly called out the US and its allies' actions with strong retaliation, is seen by some officials in the White House as a potential leader who could lead Iran and negotiate with the Trump administration in the war's next phase, the report stated.

However, White House officials revealed to Politico that they are skimming through multiple options instead of putting all their eggs in a single basket.

"He's a hot option," one administration official said, cautioning that no decisions have been made. "He's one of the highest...But we got to test them, and we can't rush into it," as per Politico.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, MB Ghalibaf, on Tuesday said that the world is divided between those who support the cause of Gaza and the 'Epstein class'.Ghalibaf said that Iran was fighting for humanity, and there is no middle ground whatsoever.

In a post on X, he said, "Iran is fighting for humanity. The world is either with Gaza and against this colonial terror regime, or it stands with the Epstein class and child torturers. There is no middle ground. #GazaGenocide."

US Iran War: Iran-US officials meeting reports in Pakistan 'speculative', says White House

US White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday said nothing concrete could be said as of now over the reports claiming that US Vice President JD Vance, US Special Presidential Envoy for Peace Missions, Steve Witkoff and Businessman and former Senior Advisor to the President of the United States, Jared Kushner, will meet with Iranian officials in Islamabad.

In response to an ANI query, Leavitt said that it should not be deemed as final until it is formally announced by the White House.

Leavitt responded, "These are sensitive diplomatic discussions, and the US will not negotiate through the press. This is a fluid situation, and speculation about meetings should not be deemed as final until they are formally announced by the White House."

The Times of Israel reported about an unnamed Israeli official who said that mediating countries are trying to convene a meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan, between the US and Iran -- possibly as soon as later this week.

Meanwhile, US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum says he has "tremendous confidence" in the engagement Trump claims to have had with Iran.

"President Trump is going to resolve it, and I'm very confident that as dealmaker-in-chief, he's going to come out of this with a winning deal for Americans," he said, as quoted by Al Jazeera.

When asked to explain how the Strait of Hormuz's effective closure has affected the administration's thinking in relation to oil supply chains, Burgum claimed Trump "knew this on day one," as reported by Al Jazeera.

US Iran War: Iranian report claims energy infrastructure damage in strikes

A semiofficial Iranian news agency close to Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard reported early Tuesday that two energy sites had been struck by airstrikes.

The report by the Fars news agency appeared timed to call into question comments by US President Donald Trump, who extended his deadline for Tehran to halt its attacks that have effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf. Trump had threatened to strike Iranian power plants.

Fars claimed an attack struck natural gas infrastructure in Isfahan, while another “targeted” a gas pipeline for the Khorramshahr power plant.

Neither Israel nor the US had claimed strikes in the area on Monday, though both countries don't always acknowledge their attacks. It also wasn't immediately clear if those sites had been specifically targeted or damaged in strikes hitting other sites in the area.

How Israel used Iran’s street cams to kill Khamenei

The role of Israel’s hijacking of Iran’s street cameras in the killing of the country’s supreme leader underscores how surveillance systems are increasingly being targeted by adversaries in wartime.

Hundreds of millions of cameras have been installed above shops, in homes and on street corners across the world, many connected to internet and poorly secured. Recent advances in artificial intelligence have enabled militaries and intelligence agencies to sift through vast amounts of surveillance footage and identify targets.

On Feb 28, Israel demonstrated the potential of such systems to be hacked and used against adversaries when Israel tracked down Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with the help of Tehran’s own street cameras - despite repeated warnings that Iran’s surveillance systems had been compromised, according to interviews and an Associated Press review of leaked data.

The use of hacked surveillance cameras, among other intelligence, in the operation to kill Khamenei was described to the AP by an intelligence official with knowledge of the operation and another person who was briefed on the operation. Both spoke on condition of anonymity.

The person briefed on the operation said that for years almost all the traffic cameras in Tehran had been hacked and the information transferred to servers in Israel. At least one camera was at an angle that allowed Israel to track daily movements of people, such as where they parked their cars near Iran’s leadership compound, the two people said. Algorithms helped provide information including people’s addresses, routes they took to work and who protected them, according to the person briefed on the operation.

US Iran War: 'Pray for Trump so that Almighty gives him good sense': Ex diplomat Fabian

Former Diplomat, KP Fabian prayed that may good sense prevail for US President Donald Trump.
Fabian, while talking to ANI, welcomed the decision by the US on cessation of hostilities, saying that the war would have had ill effects on India.

He said, "Let us welcome this development because otherwise, if Trump had insisted on the deadline and if he had sent his military to capture the Strait of Hormuz, the world would have been in a very bad situation, including India...Let us pray for President Trump so that the Almighty gives him good sense. He was going in the wrong direction."

US President Donald Trump claimed the US and Iran want to make a deal and have "major points of agreement" as he ordered the military to suspend strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days.

Speaking at the Memphis Safe Task Force Roundtable, Trump said, "We are now having really good discussions. They started last night, a little bit the night before that. I think they're very good. They want peace. They've agreed they will not have a nuclear weapon. But we'll see. Hopefully, we can make a deal that's good for all of us, including the Middle Eastern allies that have been very good to us, including Israel, which has been a great partner in this fight. But we'll see what happens. I think there's a very good chance we're going to end up in a deal."

"As I announced earlier, based on preliminary conversations between the United States and Iran over the past two days, I've directed the Department of War to temporarily postpone planned strikes against major energy and electricity targets in Iran...to determine whether a broader agreement can be reached," Trump said on Operation Epic Fury.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it has sent "search and rescue forces to operate at a scene in northern Israel where reports of an impact have been received" after an Iranian missile launch, as per a report by Al Jazeera.

Bahrain has put forward a draft United Nations Security Council resolution that would authorise countries to use "all necessary means" - diplomatic language for force - to protect commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz, according to a text seen by Reuters on Monday.

Diplomats said the draft text was backed by other Gulf Arab states and the United States, although they said it was unlikely to succeed.

US Iran War: US pausing strikes a tactical 'lull' to check arsenal and logistics: Iranian Studies expert Waghmar

A five-day pause on strikes against Iranian infrastructure by US President Donald Trump could provide a critical tactical window for de-escalation, according to a leading academic. While the move offers a brief reprieve in the ongoing conflict, its long-term impact on regional stability remains uncertain, says University of London's Iran expert Burzine Waghmar.

In an interview with ANI, Waghmar noted that while the lull provides a brief reprieve, it must be viewed against the backdrop of conflicting claims regarding diplomatic engagement.

"The lull in question that has been proposed by Mr Trump must be foregrounded against this fact: that Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi only a week or so ago was bluntly declaring that we are in communication with Washington and clearly had nothing to do with them since the war started on 28th February. But that is not true. A tacit channel of communication between him and Steve did open last week for the first time," he stated.

Pakistan 'ready to host talks' between Iran and US

Pakistan is “already ready to host talks” involving Iran and the United States, a Pakistani foreign office spokesperson told US news outlet CNN, hours after Tehran rebuffed claims that the US and Iran opened a diplomatic channel this past weekend.

Top Iranian and US officials have issued contradictory statements regarding talks between the two countries in recent days, as the US-Israeli assault on Iran entered its third week.

Iran’s foreign ministry said there was “no dialogue” between Tehran and Washington, state-backed media reported Monday. By contrast, US President Donald Trump told CNN that talks between the two nations this weekend led to a 15-point agreement.

So far, Tehran and Washington have been largely communicating through officials from several other nations, including Turkey and Egypt, in an effort to de-escalate the regional violence, sources said Monday.

We hit them hard last summer, but that doesn't mean with the right equipment, you cannot dig down and go get it... They still haven't been able to get it. That was a complete success... They have numerous leader groups; they have all been killed. Khamenei was killed, his son is unavailable. No one knows what happened to him. They haven't seen him either, so something is going on with him. I don't really consider him the leader. We do have some leaders left... Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate as the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States widens, raising fears of a broader regional war.

In the Gulf, Saudi Arabia reported that three ballistic missiles were detected near its capital on Sunday. According to its Defense Ministry, one missile was successfully intercepted while the remaining two landed in an uninhabited area. Authorities also said five drones were shot down overnight. A brief civil defense alert issued early Sunday was lifted within minutes after officials determined there was no ongoing threat. These incidents come amid continued Iranian retaliation against Gulf nations following US-Israeli strikes, with some attacks reportedly targeting energy infrastructure, heightening concerns over global oil supply disruptions.

Meanwhile, in Israel, the human toll continues to rise. Iranian missile strikes on the southern towns of Arad and Dimona left more than 100 people injured, including children. Israeli officials said air defense systems failed to intercept the incoming missiles. Medics reported 75 injured in Arad, with 10 in serious condition, and 33 others wounded earlier in Dimona. Residential areas sustained heavy damage, underscoring the growing vulnerability of civilian zones.

In Washington, the Pentagon is actively preparing contingency plans for a possible expansion of US military involvement. According to reports, officials have developed strategies for the potential deployment of ground troops into Iran, although Donald Trump has publicly stated he is not currently planning to authorize such a move. The US military has nonetheless increased readiness, positioning elements of the 82nd Airborne Division and Marine units closer to the region. Naval deployments carrying thousands of Marines are also underway, signaling a significant buildup aimed at preserving strategic flexibility.

Diplomatic tensions persist alongside military developments. Japan confirmed that one of two nationals detained in Iran has been released after months in custody, while efforts continue to secure the release of the second detainee, reportedly a journalist. Japanese officials say negotiations are ongoing with Iranian counterparts.

The conflict, which intensified following coordinated US-Israeli strikes late last month, shows no signs of de-escalation. With continued missile exchanges, military mobilization, and geopolitical fallout affecting energy markets and international relations, the situation remains highly volatile and unpredictable.
