US-Israel-Iran War Highlights: US prepares for ground operations near Iran's Strait of Hormuz, Kharg Island

US Israel Iran War News: A month into Iran war, Donald Trump has outlined five objectives the US wants to achieve before ending its war with Iran. A month into the conflict, he has suggested the operation may soon be “winding down,” even as several goals remain unclear or only partially met.

Last week, Trump expanded the list to five objectives—up from four cited earlier by his team since the war began on February 28, and three initially outlined by the Pentagon and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. While the administration insists its aims are consistent, the priorities have shifted as the conflict strains the global economy, tests alliances, and raises questions about its planning and endgame.

Joint strikes by the US and Israel have significantly weakened Iran’s military and killed several senior leaders. However, these tactical gains do not necessarily ensure that Trump’s broader strategic objectives will be achieved. With the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps still in power, an incomplete outcome could carry both domestic political risks and global consequences.

The White House maintains the campaign is on track. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said “Operation Epic Fury” is progressing “ahead of schedule” and close to meeting its core goals.

  • The US says it has significantly degraded Iran’s missile capabilities, though Tehran continues to launch missiles and drones.
  • Strikes have targeted Iran’s defence industrial base, including weapons and drone production, but attacks from Iran persist.
  • The US and Israel have established air superiority and damaged naval assets, though some Iranian capabilities remain active.
  • Efforts to halt Iran’s nuclear progress continue, with key concerns around its enriched uranium stockpile still unresolved.
  • Protecting regional allies and securing routes like the Strait of Hormuz remains a stated goal, even as threats continue.

Iran war news: Iran reports strike at Bushehr nuclear plant, third in 10 days, says IAEA
A strike near Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant late Friday caused no radiation leak or damage to the reactor, the International Atomic Energy Agency said, following Israeli attacks on Iran.

Tehran told the agency the facility was operating normally and had suffered no technical or structural impact, the IAEA said in a post on X.

The incident marks the third reported strike in Iran over the past 10 days, as the conflict in the Middle East entered its second month.

The Israeli military said it had struck a heavy water reactor and a uranium processing plant in central Iran, but did not mention Bushehr.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi called for “maximum military restraint.”

Meanwhile, Fars News Agency reported that a projectile hit the plant’s grounds at 11:40 pm on Friday, blaming the “American–Zionist enemy,” but added there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Located in southwestern Iran, the Bushehr facility hosts the country’s only operational nuclear power reactor and has been connected to the grid since 2011, according to the IAEA.

US-Iran war news: One month into Iran war, some Trump objectives are unfulfilled as he looks to wind down the conflict
Donald Trump has outlined five objectives that the US aims to achieve before ending its war with Iran. Now, a month into the conflict, he has indicated the campaign may soon be “winding down,” even as several key goals remain unclear or unmet.

Last week, Trump detailed five targets for the expansive air campaign—up from four earlier cited by his staff since the war began on February 28, and three initially referenced by the Pentagon and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. While the administration maintains that its objectives are consistent, the list has evolved as the conflict has strained the global economy, tested alliances, and raised questions about its planning, rationale, and aftermath.

By most accounts, joint strikes by the US and Israel have significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities and eliminated several senior leaders. However, these tactical gains do not necessarily ensure that all of Trump’s broader strategic goals will be met.

Some objectives remain difficult to achieve, and if the US exits the conflict with key aims unresolved while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps remains in power, Trump could face domestic political backlash as well as global scrutiny over the outcomes of a war that has reshaped the Middle East and unsettled the world economy.

Despite this, Trump and the White House insist the operation is progressing as planned. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the mission—referred to as “Operation Epic Fury”—is “ahead of schedule and performing exceptionally,” adding that the core objectives are close to being achieved.

Israel Iran War News: Iranian attack on Saudi base wounds at least 10 US troops and damages several planes
An Iranian missile attack on Friday wounded at least 10 US service members and damaged multiple aircraft at a military base in Saudi Arabia, according to two US officials familiar with the situation.

Two of the troops were seriously injured, one of the officials said. The strike on Prince Sultan Air Base also damaged several US refuelling aircraft, the officials added, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

The attack, involving both a missile and drones, came a day after Donald Trump said Iran had been “obliterated” and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said that “never in recorded history has a nation’s military been so quickly and so effectively neutralized.”

This is not the first time the base has been targeted. Army Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, 26, was wounded in a March 1 attack on the same facility and died days later. He was among 13 service members killed in the conflict.

Satellite imagery appearing to show damage to the aircraft in the latest strike has circulated online. The incident was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

US Central Command said earlier Friday that more than 300 service members have been wounded during the month-long conflict. While most have returned to duty, 30 remain out of action, including 10 who are seriously injured.

The Trump administration has proposed a 15-point ceasefire plan to Iran, with Pakistan acting as an intermediary. However, Tehran has denied that negotiations are underway. Its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has driven up fuel prices and disrupted global markets, though Iran said Friday it would allow humanitarian and agricultural shipments through the waterway.

Despite talk of diplomacy, the Pentagon is preparing to deploy at least 1,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East in the coming days. The military is also sending two Marine units, adding about 5,000 Marines and thousands of sailors to the region.

Despite the buildup, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States "can achieve all of our objectives without ground troops.”

In terms of the additional deployments, “we are always going to be prepared to give the president maximum optionality and maximum opportunity to adjust to contingencies should they emerge,” Rubio told reporters after the Group of Seven foreign ministers meeting in France.

Israel Iran War News: ‘Strait of Trump’ - US President jokes about Hormuz amid Iran talks

Trump, who has renamed several buildings in Washington after himself during his second term, said his comment was a "mistake" but then added that "there's no accidents with me."

Repeating his claims that Tehran is ready to make a deal despite its denials, the 79-year-old US leader said that talks were underway to negotiate an end to the month-long conflict.

Trump added that Iran was "on the run" and reiterated assertions that Tehran's leadership, navy, air force and nuclear program had all suffered significant damage.

"We're negotiating now, and it would be great if we could do something, but they have to open it up," Trump told a Saudi-backed FII Priority investment forum in Miami.

Trump has been pressing Israel and Saudi Arabia, the two biggest powers in the Middle East, for years to normalize ties as part of his Abraham Accords efforts.

Israel Iran War News: Iran's Arak Heavy-Water Plant, Yazd Yellowcake facility targeted in latest attacks
Iran’s state media reported that its nuclear facilities were attacked, just hours after Israel warned it would “escalate and expand” its campaign against Tehran.

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization confirmed that the Shahid Khondab Heavy Water Complex in Arak and the Ardakan yellowcake plant in Yazd Province were struck. The agency said there were no casualties and no risk of radioactive contamination. Israel previously targeted the Arak plant in June.

The attacks were reported shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that negotiations to end the conflict were progressing and extended Tehran more time to open the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, however, has not indicated any willingness to relent.

Israel Iran War News: UN warns Lebanon at 'risk of humanitarian catastrophe'
Lebanon is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis that could spiral into a catastrophe, the United Nations refugee agency warned on Friday.

Since March 2, more than one million people have been displaced from their homes, according to UNHCR.

With the number of displaced people continuing to rise, the agency said conditions on the ground are becoming increasingly alarming.

“It is really a deepening humanitarian crisis that we here on the ground are seeing in Lebanon,” said Karolina Lindholm Billing, UNHCR’s representative in the country.

“The situation remains extremely worrying and the risk of a humanitarian catastrophe... is real,” she told reporters in Geneva while speaking from Beirut.

Lebanon was drawn into the Middle East conflict on March 2 when Tehran-backed Hezbollah began firing rockets into Israel following the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

UNHCR said more than 136,000 displaced people are currently staying in 660 collective shelters, most of them schools that are operating far beyond capacity.

The agency added that access to sanitation remains limited, while many older people are struggling to sleep on classroom floors.

Israel Iran War News: Hezbollah reports clashes with Israeli forces in two Lebanon villages
Hezbollah said that its fighters had engaged in direct clashes with Israeli forces in two villages in southern Lebanon, as Israeli airstrikes on multiple areas killed at least six people, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

Lebanon was drawn deeper into the regional conflict after the Iran-backed group launched rockets towards Israel on March 2, saying the attack was in response to the US-Israeli killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Israel has since stepped up its military campaign with large-scale airstrikes across Lebanon and a ground offensive in the south.

In a statement, Hezbollah said its fighters had clashed with “Israeli enemy army forces in the villages of Bayada and Shamaa at point-blank range with light and medium weapons”, while also claiming attacks on Israeli border towns and military positions.

Bayada, a coastal village next to Shamaa, is located about eight kilometres from the Israeli border.

Israeli forces have been advancing into several towns in southern Lebanon, with officials saying the aim is to establish a security zone up to the Litani River, around 30 kilometres from the border, to push Hezbollah back and secure northern Israeli communities.

99 More Updates
The Israel-Iran war has entered Day 28 with the conflict widening in impact even as tentative diplomatic openings emerge. Military action remains intense across multiple fronts, but there is also growing evidence that regional and international actors are trying to create a framework for indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran.

A key development today is the increasingly assertive position taken by the Gulf Cooperation Council. GCC Secretary General Jasem AlBudaiwi said Gulf states want to be directly involved in any talks or agreements aimed at ending the crisis, arguing that the war has moved far beyond a bilateral US-Iran or Israel-Iran confrontation.

He said Gulf countries have been directly affected by Iranian missile and drone attacks, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and wider threats to shipping, energy infrastructure and civilians. He also warned that Iran had been demanding payments from ships transiting Hormuz, deepening the legal and economic dimensions of the crisis.

At the same time, diplomacy appears to be inching forward. Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said US-Iran indirect talks are already taking place, with Pakistan acting as a messenger channel.

According to Dar, Washington has shared a 15-point proposal, now under review in Tehran, while Turkiye and Egypt are also supporting the effort. China’s foreign minister Wang Yi has described the current moment as a “glimmer of hope”, while Canada has publicly called for de-escalation, reopening Hormuz and a pathway that preserves civilian lives.

Despite this, military escalation continues. Israel said it killed IRGC Navy commander Alireza Tangsiri in an airstrike, a major claimed blow to Iran’s maritime command, and also announced fresh strikes in Isfahan. Meanwhile, Iranian missile attacks lightly injured six people in Israel, while the wider regional spillover remains serious: two people were killed and three wounded in Abu Dhabi after falling debris from an intercepted ballistic missile. On the Lebanon front, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has vowed continued resistance, and one Israeli soldier was killed in fighting against Hezbollah in south Lebanon.

The war’s economic consequences are now becoming global. Oil prices remain elevated, with Brent above $100 and WTI near $90, while governments are beginning to react. South Korea has announced a $17 billion wartime supplementary budget and fuel tax relief to cushion the energy shock. Even as Russia denied reports of a drone shipment to Iran, and Trump intensified his rhetoric against both NATO and Tehran, the overall picture remains one of extreme volatility: a war still expanding, but with a narrow diplomatic window just beginning to open.
