US-Israel-Iran War Highlights: US prepares for ground operations near Iran's Strait of Hormuz, Kharg Island

US Israel Iran War News: A month into Iran war, Donald Trump has outlined five objectives the US wants to achieve before ending its war with Iran. A month into the conflict, he has suggested the operation may soon be “winding down,” even as several goals remain unclear or only partially met.

Last week, Trump expanded the list to five objectives—up from four cited earlier by his team since the war began on February 28, and three initially outlined by the Pentagon and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. While the administration insists its aims are consistent, the priorities have shifted as the conflict strains the global economy, tests alliances, and raises questions about its planning and endgame.

Joint strikes by the US and Israel have significantly weakened Iran’s military and killed several senior leaders. However, these tactical gains do not necessarily ensure that Trump’s broader strategic objectives will be achieved. With the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps still in power, an incomplete outcome could carry both domestic political risks and global consequences.

The White House maintains the campaign is on track. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said “Operation Epic Fury” is progressing “ahead of schedule” and close to meeting its core goals.

  • The US says it has significantly degraded Iran’s missile capabilities, though Tehran continues to launch missiles and drones.
  • Strikes have targeted Iran’s defence industrial base, including weapons and drone production, but attacks from Iran persist.
  • The US and Israel have established air superiority and damaged naval assets, though some Iranian capabilities remain active.
  • Efforts to halt Iran’s nuclear progress continue, with key concerns around its enriched uranium stockpile still unresolved.
  • Protecting regional allies and securing routes like the Strait of Hormuz remains a stated goal, even as threats continue.

Iran War News: IAEA chief expresses 'deep concern' over strikes on Iran's Bushehr NPP says damage could trigger 'major radiological accident'
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has voiced serious concerns over reported military strikes near Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, warning that damage to the operational nuclear facility could spark a major radiological accident with wide-ranging consequences.

In a post on X on Thursday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said he was "deeply concerned" about the latest reported strikes near the Bushehr plant, emphasising that given it is an operating nuclear power station housing a large amount of radioactive material, any harm to the facility could result in a catastrophic radiological event affecting not just Iran but neighbouring regions as well.

"In the current context of the ongoing conflict, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reiterates his deep concern about recent military strikes reportedly occurring near Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the latest on Tuesday evening. Given that it is an operating nuclear power plant with a large amount of nuclear material, DG Grossi warns that damage to the facility could result in a major radiological accident affecting a large area in Iran and beyond," the post read.

The Iranian ministry of sports and youth announced that "the presence of national and club teams in countries that are considered hostile and are unable to ensure the security of Iranian athletes and team members is prohibited until further notice", according to a statement carried by the ISNA news agency.

It cited "the publication of some news about the confrontation of the Tractor team against a team from the Emirates in Saudi Arabia" in the AFC Champions League as the reason behind the ban.

"The Football Federation and clubs will be obliged to notify the Asian Football Confederation of this matter in order to relocate the games," it added.

Iran War News: Trump says US has "already won" war with Iran, claims damage to Iranian navy, missile capability cut to 9%
US President Donald Trump on Thursday asserted that the United States has "already won the war" against Iran "militarily", claiming that US and Israeli strikes have significantly degraded Tehran's naval and missile capabilities.

During an interview with Fox News, Trump reiterated his view that Iranian military strength has been "knocked out" amid the West Asia conflict, stating that the naval forces and missile launch capacity of the Islamic Republic have been dramatically reduced during the ongoing conflict.

"We have already won the war, militarily. We have totally won the war," Trump said during the interview with Fox News, asserting that US-led operations had neutralised key elements of Iran's military infrastructure and capabilities.

Trump claimed that the United States had effectively destroyed Iran's naval and air force assets, including dozens of ships, and significantly degraded Iranian missile forces.

"We have already won because we have knocked out their navy; we have knocked out their air force, completely knocked out the air force, just about completely knocked out; we knocked out 154 ships, pretty good ships, in fact, I said, 'why didn't we just take them instead of sinking them we could've used them ourselves, right?' But they like showing how tough they are," the US President said.

Iran War News: Trump delays Strait of Hormuz deadline as Wall Street has biggest loss of war
US President Donald Trump said Thursday he will delay a threatened strike on Iran’s energy infrastructure and extend his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until April 6, saying talks to end the war are “going very well.”

The move marks a pullback from Trump’s earlier warning that the US would target Iran’s energy plants if the crucial shipping lane remained closed. Iran has threatened to retaliate against regional infrastructure, including desalination facilities, if the U.S. follows through.

A day after Tehran dismissed Trump’s 15-point ceasefire plan, the president said Iran was “begging to make a deal” and urged its leaders to “get serious soon” about negotiations.

Trump’s announcement on social media came after US stocks fell sharply and oil prices rose, as doubt took over again on Wall Street about a possible end to the war.

The war has killed more than 1,900 people in Iran and nearly 1,100 in Lebanon, 22 Israelis and 13 US military members, as well as a number of civilians on land and sea in the Gulf region. Millions of people in Lebanon and Iran have been displaced.
49 More Updates
The Israel-Iran war has entered Day 28 with the conflict widening in impact even as tentative diplomatic openings emerge. Military action remains intense across multiple fronts, but there is also growing evidence that regional and international actors are trying to create a framework for indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran.

A key development today is the increasingly assertive position taken by the Gulf Cooperation Council. GCC Secretary General Jasem AlBudaiwi said Gulf states want to be directly involved in any talks or agreements aimed at ending the crisis, arguing that the war has moved far beyond a bilateral US-Iran or Israel-Iran confrontation.

He said Gulf countries have been directly affected by Iranian missile and drone attacks, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and wider threats to shipping, energy infrastructure and civilians. He also warned that Iran had been demanding payments from ships transiting Hormuz, deepening the legal and economic dimensions of the crisis.

At the same time, diplomacy appears to be inching forward. Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said US-Iran indirect talks are already taking place, with Pakistan acting as a messenger channel.

According to Dar, Washington has shared a 15-point proposal, now under review in Tehran, while Turkiye and Egypt are also supporting the effort. China’s foreign minister Wang Yi has described the current moment as a “glimmer of hope”, while Canada has publicly called for de-escalation, reopening Hormuz and a pathway that preserves civilian lives.

Despite this, military escalation continues. Israel said it killed IRGC Navy commander Alireza Tangsiri in an airstrike, a major claimed blow to Iran’s maritime command, and also announced fresh strikes in Isfahan. Meanwhile, Iranian missile attacks lightly injured six people in Israel, while the wider regional spillover remains serious: two people were killed and three wounded in Abu Dhabi after falling debris from an intercepted ballistic missile. On the Lebanon front, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has vowed continued resistance, and one Israeli soldier was killed in fighting against Hezbollah in south Lebanon.

The war’s economic consequences are now becoming global. Oil prices remain elevated, with Brent above $100 and WTI near $90, while governments are beginning to react. South Korea has announced a $17 billion wartime supplementary budget and fuel tax relief to cushion the energy shock. Even as Russia denied reports of a drone shipment to Iran, and Trump intensified his rhetoric against both NATO and Tehran, the overall picture remains one of extreme volatility: a war still expanding, but with a narrow diplomatic window just beginning to open.
