US Iran War: White House calls early ‘Lid,’ signals silence on ongoing rescue mission

The White House called a "lid" for press at 4 p.m. EST, indicating President Donald Trump would not appear before media for the rest of the day.

This early closure, hours ahead of the usual schedule, underscores the administration's tight-lipped stance amid the continuing search-and-rescue operation for U.S. pilots downed over Iran.

The decision aligns with Trump's recent NBC News comments framing the incidents as part of "war," while avoiding operational details on the F-15, A-10, and Blackhawk strikes.

Bahrain reports injuries, property damage after interception of Iranian drones

Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said four citizens sustained minor injuries and several homes were damaged in the Sitra area after shrapnel fell during the interception of Iranian drones on Friday.

Authorities said the damage resulted from debris following defense operations against incoming aircraft.

The incident marks Bahrain’s latest fallout from rising regional tensions, as Iranian forces continue drone and missile activity across Gulf airspace amid escalating hostilities with the United States.

Iran’s Pezeshkian accuses US of ‘terrorism’ after attack on senior official

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday accused the United States of “terrorism” after an assassination attempt on the head of Iran’s strategic council on foreign policy left the official’s wife dead.

In a post on X, Pezeshkian said the incident occurred “just as” he was addressing the American people, adding that the world should decide “which side engages in dialogue and which in terrorism.” The attack comes amid heightened US-Iran tensions following Tehran’s rejection of Washington’s 48-hour ceasefire proposal and reports of Iranian strikes on US assets in the region.

Iran Israel War: Iran rejects US proposal for 48-hour ceasefire amid escalating regional tensions

Iran has rejected a US proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire, according to a report by the semi-official Fars news agency, as clashes continue to intensify across the region.

“The US, on April 2, proposed a 48-hour ceasefire through one of the friendly countries,” a source was quoted as saying in the report. The proposal reportedly came after growing challenges faced by American forces in the Middle East.

Fars said Tehran did not issue a written reply but instead delivered a response “on the ground” by maintaining a barrage of attacks. The source added that Washington’s diplomatic efforts to pause the fighting have intensified, particularly following a reported strike on a US military depot on Bubiyan Island in Kuwait.

US-Iran War: 'It's a war': Trump says jet downings won't derail Iran talks

US President Donald Trump stated that the downing of an American jet over Iran will not impact ongoing negotiations with Tehran. While he refused to share any further specifications of the search and rescue operations of the crew of the downed jets, he reinstated that it is a war and thus it does not change anything.

In an interview with NBC News, Trump expressed his frustration with media coverage of the sensitive rescue operation. When further asked about potential effects on talks with Iran, he said, "No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war."

US Iran War: Trump says 'keep the oil' as Hormuz blockade disrupts global supply

US President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, wrote “KEEP THE OIL, ANYONE?” as Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz continues to disrupt global oil supplies.

The remark comes amid ongoing tensions in the region and follows earlier statements from Trump urging alternative approaches to securing oil supplies. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, has been affected by the blockade, contributing to fuel shortages and market uncertainty.

There has been no immediate official clarification from the White House on the intent or policy implications of the post.

Iran War News: Iran proposes new global classification for Hormuz access; Gulf nations push back

Iran reportedly plans to classify countries as hostile, neutral, or friendly and impose transit restrictions and fees in the Strait of Hormuz. This has raised fresh geopolitical tensions, with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations calling the move unacceptable, Al Jazeera reported.

Under the proposal, hostile countries would be denied passage, while neutral states would be charged, marking a sharp departure from established international norms governing the strategic waterway. The stance of the United States and other Western nations is expected to be pivotal, but the implications for the GCC are especially significant, given their heavy reliance on the strait.

Since the conflict began, around 400 million barrels of oil have been removed from global markets, with traffic through Hormuz dropping from about 20 per cent of global crude and LNG flows to just 5 per cent of normal levels. With the Gulf region holding roughly a third of the world’s oil reserves and over a fifth of its natural gas, GCC countries have stressed that any unilateral attempt to alter the strait’s status violates international conventions and threatens to disrupt a critical global energy lifeline.

Regional efforts, led by Pakistan, to secure a ceasefire between the United States and Iran have stalled, The Wall Street Journal reports. Pakistan and other regional players have been attempting to ease tensions, though it remains unclear whether negotiations will resume or shift to alternative diplomatic channels.

The governor of Iran’s southwestern Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, Yadollah Rahmani, called on residents to actively search for the crew of a downed US fighter jet, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency. He urged people, particularly those in tribal regions, to prioritize locating and capturing the pilots alive. Rahmani emphasized that individuals who manage to capture or kill members of the “hostile enemy forces” would receive special recognition from the governorate. His remarks highlight a strong call for civilian involvement in responding to the incident and underscore the importance he placed on apprehending the pilots.

Israel Iran war news: Italian central bank cuts forecasts due to Mideast war

Italy’s central bank has downgraded its growth outlook, citing sharp energy price rises linked to the conflict in the Middle East. It now forecasts GDP growth of 0.5% in both 2026 and 2027, rising modestly to 0.8% in 2028—slightly below earlier projections. Inflation is expected to increase to 2.6% in 2026, significantly higher than previously anticipated.

In a worst-case scenario, where oil prices exceed $120 per barrel throughout 2026, growth could stall entirely, inflation may approach 4%, and the economy could enter recession in 2027. The bank warned that prolonged conflict could disrupt trade, damage energy infrastructure, and further undermine confidence.

Iran war news: US conducting search and rescue ops after American fighter jet goes down in Iran, claims report

US forces have initiated search and rescue operations for a fighter jet reportedly shot down over Iran, according to multiple outlets including the Wall Street Journal and CNN. CNN cited three US sources who confirmed Iranian state media claims, adding that analysed images appear consistent with an F-15 aircraft. Iranian broadcaster IRIB stated the jet was targeted on Friday and shared a map indicating the area where two American pilots are being sought.

The exact crash location remains unclear, though footage geolocated by CNN shows low-flying military aircraft over Khuzestan Province. This incident could mark the first time a US aircraft has been downed over Iran during the conflict. US officials have yet to comment on the pilots’ status.

Iran war news: Three tankers, including one Japanese-owned, cross Strait of Hormuz near Oman

Three tankers, including one partly owned by a Japanese firm, transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday by keeping close to Oman’s coastline, an unusual route amid Iran’s tight control of the vital passage. Before the conflict began over a month ago, roughly a fifth of global oil and LNG flowed through the strait, but traffic has since collapsed due to Iranian attacks on ships and energy infrastructure. This disruption has driven fuel shortages and rising prices worldwide. The vessels avoided the usual Iranian-approved corridor, marking a rare deviation. Maritime data shows crossings have fallen sharply, with only limited traffic continuing through the strategically critical waterway.

Israel Iran war news: Israel resumes operations at gas field shut after Iran war began

Israel has restarted operations at a key natural gas field that had been shut since the beginning of its conflict with Iran, a closure that disrupted exports to Egypt and Jordan. At the onset of hostilities on 28 February, Israel halted activity at the offshore Leviathan and Karish fields. The energy ministry has now confirmed that production at Leviathan has resumed following a security review. The site was previously closed due to fears that a strike on such a high-pressure facility could be catastrophic. Iran has targeted several Israeli industrial sites during the conflict. Gas supply to the domestic market will now increase. Despite global disruption, Israel has remained relatively insulated, prioritising domestic energy needs over regional export obligations.

Israel Iran war news: Netanyahu says 70% of Iran's steel production capacity destroyed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that Israeli strikes have destroyed about 70 percent of Iran's steel production capacity, significantly hindering its ability to manufacture weapons.

Steel is a strategically important material used in industrial and military production, including of missiles, drones and ships.

"Together with our American friends, we continue to crush the terror regime in Iran. We are eliminating commanders, bombing bridges, bombing infrastructures," Netanyahu said in a video statement.

"In recent days, the Air Force has destroyed 70 percent of Iran's steel production capacity," he said.

"This is a tremendous achievement that deprives the Revolutionary Guards of both financial resources and the ability to produce many weapons."

Iran's two largest steel plants have been forced out of action by several waves of US and Israeli air attacks.

Meanwhile, Iran continued attacks across the Middle East, hitting a Kuwaiti refinery and desalination plant, while U.S. and Israeli strikes targeted Iran. Former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif proposed a ceasefire plan in Foreign Affairs, suggesting limits on Iran’s nuclear programme and reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for sanctions relief.

The war has killed thousands, displaced millions, disrupted Gulf energy infrastructure, and driven oil prices up, with the UN Security Council set to debate measures to secure the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Iran fires on targets across West Asia while Israel, US hit Tehran as war nears end of 5th week

Iran launched strikes across the Middle East on Friday, damaging a desalination plant and igniting a refinery in Kuwait, as US and Israeli forces continued airstrikes on the country in the fifth week of war. Despite claims from Washington and Tel Aviv that Iran’s military capacity has been largely weakened, Tehran has maintained pressure on both Israel and Gulf neighbours.

The conflict has severely disrupted global markets, with Iran targeting energy infrastructure and tightening control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas. Prices have surged, raising concerns over the cost of basic goods worldwide.

Amid the escalation, former Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called for an end to hostilities, proposing limits on Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief and reopening the strait. However, diplomatic progress remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, attacks have spread across the region, with strikes reported in the Gulf and Iran, as casualties continue to mount and fears of wider instability grow.

Iran war news: Iran warns it will ‘destroy’ US regional assets if US-Israel strikes escalated

Iran’s military has warned it will widen its attacks across the region if the United States carries out threats against its infrastructure. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central headquarters, stated that any strike on Iran’s facilities would be met with retaliation against all US assets and infrastructure in the region. He said the warning followed repeated threats by US President Donald Trump to target Iran’s bridges, power stations and energy networks. Zolfaghari added that Iran could strike US- and Israeli-linked fuel, energy and economic sites, as well as assets in allied countries hosting American forces. He also urged such countries to expel US troops to avoid potential harm. The remarks came after Trump claimed US forces had destroyed Iran’s largest bridge.

Iran war news: Container ship declaring French ownership passes through Hormuz strait

A container vessel identifying itself as French-owned has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, according to MarineTraffic data reviewed on Friday. The Malta-flagged Kribi, operated by French shipping group CMA CGM, crossed the strategically vital waterway on Thursday afternoon, exiting the Gulf despite severe restrictions imposed by Iran since the onset of the Middle East conflict.

This appears to be the first confirmed passage by a major European operator since 1 March, when Iranian attacks—launched in response to US and Israeli strikes—drastically curtailed maritime traffic. By early Friday, the vessel was located off Muscat, Oman, still transmitting “owner France” via its tracking system.

In a statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group launched a barrage of ballistic missiles aimed at what he described as key Israeli targets.

He stated the attack was coordinated with allied forces across the region, including groups linked to Iran and Hezbollah, and claimed it had successfully achieved its objectives. The Houthis also indicated that their involvement in the conflict could intensify depending on developments.

In response, the Israel Defence Forces reported detecting a missile launch from Yemen and said its air defence systems were deployed to intercept the threat, while urging civilians to follow safety guidance. Earlier in the week, the Houthis said they had conducted a third coordinated strike targeting sites in southern Israel.

Israel said on Friday that it was facing a fresh wave of Iranian missile attacks, as US President Donald Trump warned that Washington had not yet begun “destroying what’s left” of Iran’s infrastructure. The conflict, now more than a month old, began with joint US–Israeli strikes on Iran and has since escalated across the Middle East, disrupting the global economy and affecting millions.

Both sides have increasingly targeted economic and industrial sites, heightening fears of wider energy disruption. Israel reported activating its air defences against the latest barrage, with no immediate casualties, though some property damage was recorded.

Trump’s remarks about further strikes, including on bridges and power plants, drew criticism from Iran, whose foreign minister said attacks on civilian infrastructure would not force surrender. Meanwhile, a former Iranian diplomat urged negotiations, proposing limits on Tehran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief to end the conflict.

The Middle East conflict, now stretching beyond a month, intensified sharply with multiple flashpoints involving the United States, Iran, Israel and regional actors. The US Embassy in Baghdad issued an urgent advisory warning of possible attacks by Iran-aligned militias within 24–48 hours, urging American citizens to leave Iraq immediately.

Meanwhile, hostilities between Iran and Israel escalated, with Israel reporting at least four waves of Iranian missile attacks within six hours. Air defence systems intercepted several projectiles, though some caused minor damage and injuries in central regions. Iran also launched fresh strikes despite US claims that its military capabilities had been significantly degraded.

Hezbollah widened the conflict by launching rockets and drones into northern Israel, triggering air raid sirens. In the Gulf, a missile was intercepted near Abu Dhabi’s KEZAD zone, causing minor damage but no casualties.

US President Donald Trump signalled further escalation, vowing “extremely hard” strikes on Iran over the next two to three weeks while also claiming that US operations were nearing completion.

Global markets reacted nervously, with oil prices surging over 4% amid fears of supply disruptions, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.
