Iran War: Iran mediators make last push towards a 45-day ceasefire, report says

With the deadline set by US President Donald Trump approaching for Iran, Axios reported on Sunday (local time), citing sources that the US, Iran and a group of regional mediators are discussing the terms for a potential 45-day ceasefire that could result in a permanent end to the war.

As per Axios, the four sources-- US, Israeli and regional sources with knowledge of the talks said that the chances for reaching a partial deal over the next 48 hours are slim.

It further reported that the mediators told Iranian officials there is no time for further negotiation tactics and underlined that the next 48 hours are the last opportunity Iran to reach a deal and prevent massive destruction for the country.

However, the last-ditch efforts are the only chance to prevent a dramatic escalation in the war that will include massive strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure and a retaliation against energy and water facilities in the Gulf states.

The development comes after the 10-day deadline to Iran which was expected to expire Monday evening was extended by 20 hours as Trump posted on Truth Social a new deadline of Tuesday at 8pm ET. (ANI)

Israel Iran War: Oil prices climb after Trump's threat to Iran over Strait of Hormuz

Oil prices climbed on Sunday after US President Donald Trump threatened to strike Iranian energy facilities if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, CNN reported, as Brent crude rose 1.4% to reach USD 110.60.

US crude similarly increased by 1.8%, settling at USD 113.60. As per CNN, the price surge followed a series of aggressive social media posts from the President directed at the Iranian government.

"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F****n' Strait, you crazy b******s, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah," Trump posted to Truth Social on Sunday morning.

According to CNN, a senior Iranian official responded to the warning later that day, stating that the waterway would not be reopened under current conditions. The official maintained that the strait will remain closed until the country is "fully compensated" for war damages.

Trump previously issued a two-day ultimatum to Iran on March 21, but eventually extended that deadline to April 6.

Iran US War: Iranian Supreme Leader's India representative slams Trump for abusive rant

After US President Donald Trump issued a sharply worded statement urging Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Supreme Leader's Representative in India said on Monday that it was a "big mistake" to start the war in Iran, which has had wide-ranging repercussions. He also called on the world leaders to come together and urge POTUS to stop the war.

When asked about the recent sharply-worded statement by Trump, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi told ANI, "The language which every human being uses is the manifestation of his personality and his humanity and his morality. So someone who uses rude language means that this is his personality--a lot of American senators denied using that language."

In a post on Truth Social, Trump used unusually harsh language to convey his message, reminding Tehran of his deadline to 'make a deal' or to 'open the Strait', noting that Tuesday will be the day when Washington will wrap up all of Iran's energy and civil infrastructure.

"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F****n' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah," he stated in his post.

Iran US War: Airstrikes target Tehran university linked to weapons work

A series of airstrikes early Monday morning on Iran's capital targeted the Sharif University of Technology.

Iranian media reported the strikes and damage to buildings there, as well as a natural gas distribution site next to the campus.

It wasn't immediately clear what had been targeted on the grounds of the university, which is empty of students as the war has forced all schools in the country into online classes.

Multiple countries over the years have sanctioned the university for its work with the military, particularly on Iran's ballistic missile programme, which is controlled by the country's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.

The Guard and other security forces have been using secondary sites as rally points as their bases have come under repeated attack during the war.

Explosions rang out into the night. The sound of low-flying fighter jets could be heard off and on for hours.

Meanwhile, the state-run IRAN daily newspaper said in an online message that an airstrike in a residential area of Qom killed at least five people. Qom is a holy Shiite seminary city just south of Tehran.

It wasn't unclear what the target of the strike was.

Iran has not provided overall casualty figures from the war in days. It also hasn't discussed its materiel losses.

The current Middle East war erupted late February 2026 when the US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, retaliating against Tehran's proxy attacks and Houthi disruptions in the Red Sea. President Donald Trump, inaugurated January 2025, framed the operation as preemptive to neutralize Iran's missile arsenal and regional influence, triggering over five weeks of intense fighting.

Iran responded with massive drone and missile barrages targeting US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Syria, and the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes—carrying 20% of global oil. Tehran downed two US jets, including an A-10, while strikes hit American depots and proxies clashed regionally. Hezbollah fired on northern Israel; Houthis and Iraqi militias activated. Casualties: 13 US dead, 247 wounded (mostly Army/Navy enlisted); Iranian losses unconfirmed but heavy in aircraft and command.

The Strait's partial closure spiked oil prices, prompting Bahrain's UN resolution for defensive shipping protection—delayed by China/Russia veto threats. Trump vows escalation until Hormuz reopens; Iran rejects truces, accusing U.S. "terrorism" after assassinating a top advisor's wife. Pezeshkian contrasts Tehran's "negotiations" with Washington's covert ops.
