Maryam, aged 50 and serving as the senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, secured victory in the chief ministerial elections despite a walkout by lawmakers from Imran Khan's party-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

Maryam's triumph in the chief ministerial elections holds significant political importance in Punjab, a province with a population of 120 million people.

She paid homage to her mother at Jati Umra's grave before proceeding to the Punjab Assembly for the election.

Ahead of the election, the PML-N highlighted this historic moment, stating in a social media post, "For the first time in the history of our nation, a woman will become the CM Punjab. Maryam Nawaz Sharif will be the first woman to take the oath as CM Punjab!"
