Peru's PM Alberto Otarola resigned Tuesday amid allegations of influence-peddling to help a woman he is said to have addressed lovingly in recordings released by media. Otarola, 57, is married with five kids.
Panorama has released recordings, dating back to 2021, where Otarola speaks to a woman named Yazire Pinedo, 25, who landed two contracts this year worth $14,000 to do archive and administrative work for govt.
In one clip, a man said to be the PM tells her: "tell me, then, my love, so we can talk. You know these things are annoying, they are a pain, but you also know I love you," apparently referring to the red tape involved in bidding for a govt gig. Otarola has denied any wrongdoing.
