​Choosing to relocate, especially with family in tow, is a significant decision. The paramount question for many is, "Where to?" Vienna, Zurich, and Auckland emerge as prime options, securing the top positions in Mercer’s 2023 Quality of Living survey for expatriates.

​Vienna, the Austrian capital, maintains its lead, as noted in the last pre-pandemic survey of 2019. The survey emphasizes Vienna's vibrant cultural scene, architecture, and rich history.

Zurich, Switzerland's city, follows closely at second place, lauded for political stability and top-notch infrastructure. Meanwhile, Auckland, situated on the opposite side of the globe, earns praise for its high-quality healthcare and cultural dynamism.

Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, and Geneva, Switzerland, secure the fourth and fifth positions in this predominantly Western European-dominated top 10. Vancouver, Canada, stands out as the only North American entry, claiming the eighth spot and receiving accolades for its "outdoor recreation and cosmopolitan living."

​Singapore, leading among Asian cities, ties at 29th place with Adelaide, while Hong Kong lingers at 77th among 241 destinations.

​In additional findings, New York ranks 40th, three places below San Francisco. London leads the UK entries at 45th place, with Aberdeen at 49th and Edinburgh at 51st. Dubai secures the highest Middle Eastern position at 79th, while Port Louis in Mauritius tops African cities at 88th. Sydney claims the ninth spot, with Melbourne and Perth at 21st and 22nd, respectively. Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, finds itself at the bottom in 241st place.
