“So many lies”: Candace Owens breaks her silence on TPUSA backlash, anger fueled tweets and the controversy that followed
Candace Owens is once again at the center of a heated public debate, this time over her own words and how she chose to explain them. In a recent discussion, Owens attempted to contextualize the controversial statements she made about Turning Point USA following Charlie Kirk’s death. While some listeners viewed her comments as an overdue moment of accountability, others felt the explanation stopped short of genuine remorse.
The controversy has intensified online, with critics accusing Owens of reframing aggression as frustration and supporters arguing she was reacting emotionally during a chaotic period. What’s clear is that Owens’ remarks have reopened questions about responsibility, rhetoric, and the line between questioning institutions and escalating conflict during moments of tragedy.
In her explanation, Candace Owens acknowledged that her language crossed a line, even as she defended the emotions behind it. “They were sort of most upset with what I, obviously a bit of a fever pitch, what I tweeted that it was a God forsaken company and people should not give money to it. And I have to own that. That's aggressive. That is actually aggressive,” she said, conceding that her tone was harsh.
Owens went on to describe the emotional state she claims fueled her response. “In the retrospect, I was very frustrated. And I don't know, I just I felt like we weren't getting any answers. And there were so many lies.”
According to her, the backlash she received compounded that frustration, especially as she believed her questions were reasonable. “I was getting attacked for asking all meaningful questions that was within their capacity to answer,” she added.
She also acknowledged a personal flaw she says contributes to these moments. “I told you, I definitely my problem in life is that I can rise to anger very quickly.” Owens framed herself as someone reacting defensively rather than strategically, arguing that her critics ignored how early and casually some of her concerns were raised.
“I really felt like I was under attack for telling the truth from the very beginning,” she said, referencing disputes over religious references and internal reactions involving Alex Clark and Andrew Colvett.
Despite her explanation, the response online suggests the debate is far from settled. For many observers, Owens’ words highlight how quickly emotional commentary can spiral into lasting controversy, especially when public trust, grief, and influence collide.
