“Who killed Charlie Kirk?”: Theo Von stirs debate with Candace Owens kids joke during widely shared podcast episode

Theo Von made headlines after joking about the children of political commentator Candace Owens during a recent podcast episode. The comments came at the start of his show released on January 6, where Von spoke with fellow comedian Dave Smith. While opening the episode, Theo Von made light jokes that linked Candace Owens’ public claims to imaginary games her children might play. The remarks quickly spread online and sparked discussion across social media.

The jokes were connected to Owens’ past public statements about the death of Charlie Kirk and her claims about French First Lady Brigitte Macron. These claims have not been backed by official findings. Still, they have drawn strong reactions online. Theo Von later softened his tone and clearly praised Owens’ children, calling them beautiful. During the podcast, Theo Von joked while speaking about Candace Owens’ public views. He said, “Her kids are so funny, dude. Instead of playing hide-and-go-seek, they’ll play like, ‘Who killed Charlie Kirk?’” Dave Smith replied in a playful way and added another joke tied to Owens’ past comments.


Theo Von then shifted his tone. He spoke kindly about Owens’ children and said, “They are beautiful kids. I keep talking about them, and I probably should stop.” He also said he was not used to seeing mixed families often and spoke from personal experience.

This was not the first time Theo Von mentioned Owens’ family. In March 2025, Candace Owens appeared on The Theo Von Podcast. During that episode, Von showed a family photo and compared Owens’ toddler daughter to UFC fighter Anthony Smith. He said, “I’ll say this is a little girl on the right. In this photo, she looks like Anthony Smith, who is one of the greatest UFC fighters. And I shouldn’t say that because she’s going to get upset.” Owens laughed and took the joke lightly.

Later in the January podcast, Von and Smith spoke about trust in news media. Dave Smith said young people now question big institutions more. He joked, “You got to just believe anything Candace says, man. That’s the new world we live in.” Theo Von replied, “I mean, she’s brave, dude.”

Smith later spoke about independent voices online, mentioning Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens as major figures shaping online debate.

Candace Owens has continued to discuss the Charlie Kirk case on her own podcast, again questioning official accounts. No new confirmed findings have been released.
