1 killed 3 injured in a tragic shooting incident at California's Fairfield high school graduation ceremony

One person was killed and three others injured in a shooting that broke out at a Northern California's Fairfield high school shortly after a graduation ceremony on Wednesday evening, authorities said.


According to police, the incident took place around 7.15 pm in the parking lot of Fairfield High School, where the Sem Yeto High School graduation had been held, KCRA 3 News reported.


Fairfield police officer Michelle Belyea said one victim died due to gunshot wounds, while the other three were taken to hospital in unknown condition.
No arrests have been made so far and no information about suspects has been released.


“It’s a very scary incident when something like this does happen, especially during the end of a school event,” Belyea said, adding, “So, obviously, we just want everyone to be safe.”


Mayor of Suisun City, Alma Hernandez, in Solano County, reported an active shooter around 8 pm at Fairfield High School’s Schafer Stadium.
A man who attended the ceremony said the shooting occurred in the parking lot after the event ended while photographs were being taken. A father whose daughter attended the graduation said he heard gunshots and began running.



Amanda Prieto, who lives near the school, said she first heard shots while on a call in her backyard.


“It dawned on me quickly how close that rapid fire was,” she said. “I looked over the fence and people were just screaming and running through the parking lot. It was horrific.”
Fairfield mayor Catherine Moy expressed condolences following the incident and said the shooter will face justice.
