EW DELHI: Stanford University's Knight-Hennessy Scholars announced its 90 new cohort including 7 Indian-origin students, marking the largest cohort to date.

Among the Indian-origin scholars are Ank Agarwal, Wasan Kumar, Aneesh Pappu, Isha Sanghvi, Kritika Singh, Krishna Pathak, and Rahul Penumaka.

Ank Agarwal, originally from New Haven, Connecticut, is studying both an MD and a PhD in cancer biology at Stanford School of Medicine, focusing on cancer research, dermatology, and health equity. While, Wasan Kumar, is currently pursuing an MD/MBA at Stanford’s School of Medicine and Graduate School of Business, with a background in neuroscience and interests in health policy and technology, The American Bazaar reported.

Aneesh Pappu is pursuing a PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford’s School of Engineering, exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, privacy, and policy. Another student candidate Isha Sanghvi, a native of Fremont, California, is pursuing an MD at Stanford’s School of Medicine, aiming to merge medicine, entrepreneurship, and social impact with a focus on women’s health and trauma-informed care.

Kritika Singh, from McLean, Virginia, is dedicated to bridging gaps in global healthcare through innovative technologies, pursuing an MD at Stanford’s School of Medicine with a focus on transforming healthcare delivery.

Krishna Pathak, from Carmel, Indiana, is a JD candidate at Stanford Law, bringing experience from the White House National Security Council, with a focus on foreign policy and technology.

Rahul Penumaka, from India's Hyderabad focuses on translational research and applied medicine at Stanford’s School of Medicine, with a background in pharmacology and a dedication to addressing the global burden of cardiovascular disease, as per The American Bazaar.

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, a multidisciplinary and multicultural graduate fellowship program at Stanford University, offers up to three years of financial support for graduate studies while preparing scholars to be visionary, courageous, and collaborative leaders addressing global challenges.

The 2024 cohort showcases diversity, with 47 percent holding non-US passports, 49 percent of US scholars identifying as persons of color, and 11 percent having served in the US military. The scholars earned undergraduate degrees at 60 different institutions, including 12 international institutions, with 22 percent being the first in their family to graduate from college.
