Framing his first year in office as a historic reset, the president said his administration had ushered in a “golden age of America.”
“Today, our border is secure. Our spirit is restored. Inflation is plummeting. Incomes are rising fast. The roaring economy is roaring like never before, and our enemies are scared. Our military and police are stacked,” Trump said. “And America is respected again, perhaps like never before.”
The address unfolded amid disruption in the chamber. Congressman Green was escorted out for the second consecutive year after staging a protest. He was carrying a sign that read, “Black people aren’t apes,” referencing a video Trump had reposted on Truth Social that depicted the Obamas as apes.
Last year, Green was also removed from the chamber after shaking his cane at Trump during proceedings.
Throughout the speech, Trump leaned into his signature hyperbole, describing his first year in office as “a transformation like no one has ever seen before, a turnaround for the ages,” while portraying the situation he inherited in stark, apocalyptic terms.
