Vice president Kamala Harris has officially called Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory in the 2024 presidential election
This call, confirmed by a senior aide, took place on Wednesday afternoon, following a highly contentious electoral race. During their conversation, Harris emphasised the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and the need for Trump to be a president for all Americans.
Meanwhile, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement that, during the call, "President Trump acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country."
Harris is expected to deliver a concession speech where she will further address the election results and her supporters. Trump's victory marks a significant comeback as he becomes the first president since Grover Cleveland to return to the White House after being ousted.
