Watch: ICE agents barge into Portland family's home; point gun at them as baby cries
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were seen pointing a gun at a family — including a mother holding her three-month-old baby — as they burst into their home in Portland, Oregon, footage of the incident showed.
The video, recorded by the mother, Mari Magana, and posted on Facebook, captured the moment ICE agents kicked down the bedroom door of the family’s apartment in Gresham — about 17 miles outside Portland. It is one of several Democrat-led cities where US President Donald Trump has sought to deploy federal troops in response to anti-ICE protests, some of which have turned violent.
“This is unfair… they scared my baby. We are not criminals to be treated that way, let alone have guns pointed at us,” Magana wrote in the Facebook post accompanying the footage.
“She is so traumatised that anything scares her; she’s shaking all the time,” her mother, Gloria Bautista, told The Independent.
In the video, the agents can be seen shouting, “Police, don’t move, hands up,” while apparently pointing weapons at the family.
The baby was heard crying off-camera after the officers started shouting.
Two male relatives were arrested and taken to a detention facility in nearby Tacoma, Washington. One of them can be seen approaching the agents with his hands raised.
Trump administration responds
A Department of Homeland Security official, ICE's parent agency, said there were "no injuries" in the operation, which targeted “a previously removed violent criminal illegal alien from Mexico.”
The main suspect continues to be at-large, according to the official.
"ICE officers attempted to pull this criminal illegal alien over in a vehicle stop. He attempted to evade arrest and rammed into a United States Postal Service vehicle before fleeing on foot into an apartment. After refusals to come out, law enforcement entered the apartment. The target escaped and remains at-large. Two other aliens from Mexico were found inside the apartment and taken into ICE custody at the scene," he added.
The family, however, claimed that the two detained men had entered the US legally.
