'We will work on a new husband': Donald Trump Jr's ex Kimberly Guilfoyle creates a ripple in Greece, visits nightclub at 1.30am
Greece's health minister Adonis Georgiadis said people who never called him for anything have now started calling him, asking him about Kimberly Guilfoyle, the US ambassador to Greece, as her appointment raised several questions as to whether Trump was not serious about Greece etc., the New York Times reported. Everybody wants to meet her. When she came here, all my friends called me to ask me how she was in real life. I mean, even people who have never called me for anything," the minister said.
Guilfoyle has become a sensation in Athens as paparazzi follow her every time she turns up at a nightclub post-midnight. The NYT profile said Guilfoyle became the most sought-after as Greece was more used to US ambassadors who were traditional foreign service officers and not some woman whom the president's son dated.
At a party, Guilfoyle told Greek president Constantina Tassoulas that she had been to Greece previously on a "fabulous honeymoon".
“Honeymoon was fabulous, the marriage?” Tassoulas said lightly, the NYT account said.
“We’ll work on a new husband,” Guilfoyle said.
Before being engaged to Donald Trump Jr, Guilfoyle was married to Gavin Newsom, the California Governor.
Greek officials found out, as NYT reported, Guilfoyle was doing the background work long before she arrived in Athens. She wanted announcements to be on her watch and so five days after her arrival, she oversaw Greece signing an agreement with Exxon Mobil to begin exploring for natural gas northwest of Corfu. Ten days later, she stood between Greece’s prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for the announcement of a deal to import US liquefied natural gas through Greece to Ukraine to help with the country’s energy needs this winter.
Guilfoyle also does not have any office hours and calls officials at midnight.
Guilfoyle said she's not apologetic about her active social life in Athens. “If it brings enthusiasm and interest in America and the economy and commerce and trade and our bilateral relationship, I’m all for that,” she said.
On her post-midnight appearance at a nightclub, she said it was for her friend Konstantinos Argiros, one of the most famous Greek pop singers. “It’s important to show up for your friends, for the people that are there for you. I think anyone that you talk to is going to tell you that I’m an incredibly loyal person. I have tremendous stamina. That’s one of the things the president loves about me that I’m loyal, I’m smart, that I’m effective. And I’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done," she said.
