In his statement, Trump highlighted Carr's previous contributions to the FCC: "His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman."

FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr, currently the top Republican in the agency, has shown support for Elon Musk's efforts to expand broadband internet service. The FCC, an independent agency, regulates communications in the US and internationally.

Carr previously served as the FCC’s general counsel and adviser to former FCC Chair Ajit Pai. His support for Musk's ventures aligns with his previous work in the telecommunications sector.

Reuters also reported that Carr criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’s appearance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” though the context of his criticism was not detailed.
