Renault Bigster 7-seater SUV spied testing: XUV 7XO, Safari rival details

Renault India is gearing up for a major product push in India, and while the spotlight is largely on the upcoming new-generation Duster, fresh spy shots from Indian roads reveal that the company is also getting ready to introduce the Bigster. The SUV is heavily camouflaged and is essentially the three-row version of the Duster, when launched it will compete with the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. The larger Bigster is likely to offer greater space and practicality than the standard Duster and may retain the same name when introduced in the Indian market. As seen in the above image, the SUV is heavily camouflaged and it’s hard to tell anything about its design. However, few design elements can be seen. At the front, the SUV features a wide horizontal LED DRL signature, while the main headlamp units appear positioned lower on the fascia, creating a layered lighting arrangement. Although the grille and bumper remain concealed under camouflage, the overall proportions indicate an upright SUV stance.From the side, the SUV displays a large, boxy profile typical of a three-row vehicle. The test mule rides on large alloy wheels, likely around 19 inches, and features prominent wheel arch cladding that adds to its rugged look. A tall roofline and extended rear overhang suggest space for a third row of seats. At the rear, the prototype appears to have a roof spoiler and vertically positioned tail lamps, though the exact design remains hidden under camouflage. The upright tailgate and wide stance point to a strong road presence, a characteristic previously associated with the Duster in India.There are no details about the interior, but the production model is expected to feature a similar cabin layout as the Duster and it could also carry over several features from the Duster. These could include a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, push-button start, keyless entry and rear AC vents. Higher variants may also offer ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a premium audio system and advanced driver assistance systems.Engine options are also expected to be carried over from the Duster, though the entry-level 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is unlikely to be offered. Instead, the SUV is expected to use a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine producing 163 PS and 280 Nm, paired with a six-speed DCT automatic transmission. Renault may also introduce a 1.8-litre E-Tech strong hybrid powertrain, aimed at improving efficiency and enabling limited electric-only driving at low speeds in city conditions.
